When attempting to run the connector program with QuickBooks Desktop, some users may encounter the error message: "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application, where it says value can't be null and parameter name source." This error message can be confusing and not very helpful in identifying the root cause of the issue.

The Cause: User Doesn't Have Admin Rights for QuickBooks Desktop

The most common cause of this error is that the user logged into QuickBooks Desktop does not have admin rights for the software. In order to run the connector program with QuickBooks Desktop, the user must have admin rights. Without these rights, the user will not be able to access certain features of QuickBooks Desktop that are required for the integration with ServiceBox.

The Solution: Verify Admin Rights or Log in as Admin User

To resolve this error, the user must verify that they have admin rights for QuickBooks Desktop. If they do not, they will need to log in as an admin user in QuickBooks itself. Once logged in as an admin user, they should then open QuickBooks as an admin and try to re-run the sync. This should allow the user to successfully run the sync and avoid encountering the error.

If you're still unable to successfully run the sync, please click on the Details drop-down menu and expand the dialog box and copy the entire error message, and send it via email to [email protected]. One of our agents will be pleased to assist you from there.
